ABDULMECİD'in YAŞAM ALANI; DOLMABAHÇE SARAYI

The Besiktas coastal area, where Dolmabahçe Palace is located, is an area where maritime activities have been carried out in the past as one of the bays of the Bosphorus. This bay, a natural harbour where ships took refuge since ancient times, was also admired by the rulers during the Byzantine period, and royal palaces were built in this area.

During the Ottoman period, the coastal region served as a port where Navy ships were moored and maritime ceremonies were held, 16. it was called "dolmabağçe" when it was filled in the century. Although Topkapı Palace was an official residence, the” dolmabağçe " area became one of the more preferred visiting places and was used as a hospital for the Sultan and the dynasty. 19. until the century, the mansion and pavilion community built on this hasbahçe was called “Besiktas Beach Palace”. 19. in the century, the winds of renewal and modernization of the era reflected on Ottoman culture and administration and palaces. The Naval Museum was built in 1897. The permission of Abdülhamit was established in a small building in Tersane-i Amire named "Museum and Library Administration" in accordance with the orders of Hasan Hüsnü Pasha, Bozcaadalı Minister of the Navy. The museum, which provides service in different buildings at various times due to periodic conditions, was finally moved to its current location in Beşiktaş (formerly used as a finance building) in 1961 and entered into service under the name of "Maritime Museum and Archive Directorate". Located next to the Museum Main Exhibition Building, XX. A warehouse built at the beginning of the century and used as an aircraft hangar, boat repair workshop and garage was allocated to the museum. The building started to be used as a gallery in which the galleys and sultanate boats in the museum collection were preserved in 1971 under the name of "Historical Boat Gallery".

An architectural project contest was opened in 2005 as the historical Kayiklar Gallery was not built as a museum and the troubles caused by its inadequate size could not be eliminated. In 2008, the tender for the new museum building was concluded and the construction of the museum, consisting of the Main Exhibition Building, the Historical Boat Gallery, the Cultural Site and the Open Exhibition Areas, started in accordance with the contemporary museum understanding. Firstly, a temporary warehouse was built in order to protect the historical boats during the construction process and the boats were moved to this warehouse in 2009. Restoration works were completed in 2013 and the Historical Boat Gallery was opened to visitors on 04 October 2013. (Free for students)

At Dolmabahçe Palace, a warehouse-Museum was first created by transferring around 20,000 objects that the visitor could not see in the furnished spaces of the palace. Due to the lack of adequate exhibition facilities in this space, the project “Palace collections Museum” was implemented to create a new space where sample pieces from all collections could be exhibited and which would include museums, art galleries and warehouses. 28 modern museum showcases, kitchen tools display areas and outdoor display platforms were created to be used in the exhibition arrangement and to bring as many objects as possible to the visitors. LINDEN KASRI

Linden Kasrı is a tornado in Linden Mesire, which is located in the valley between Besiktas and Nişantaşı. Two castors called “ceremony Pavilion” and “Entourage Pavilion” were built here by Abdulmecit to Nigogos Balyan. Of these, the ceremonial Pavilion is the main Linden Kasri. The rectangular pavilion, consisting of a single floor on a high subasman, was built of cut stone. Maiyet Köşkü, located a little further from the ceremony Köşkü, is a more simple structure; in this building, which has two floors, there is a two-spoke staircase on the entrance facade. There is a hall and stairs in the middle of the entrance and 4 rooms at the corners.
